Christmas Books

What are looking forward to reading during the holidays?

Christmas is my favorite holiday.  Reading is my favorite thing to do.  SInce the holiday season gets so busy, I decided to pick out a book I didn’t want to miss at this time.

chr train

Goodreads:  Disillusioned journalist Tom Langdon must get from Washington D.C. to L.A in time for Christmas. Forced to travel by train, he begins a journey of rude awakenings, thrilling adventures and holiday magic. He has no idea that the locomotives pulling him across America will actually take him into the rugged terrain of his own heart, as he rediscovers people’s essential goodness and someone very special he believed he had lost.

The Christmas Train is filled with memorable characters who have packed their bags with as much wisdom as mischief … and shows how we do get second chances to fulfill our deepest hopes and dreams, especially during this season of miracles.

Tell me your book that you do not want to miss during this busy season.

Goodreads:   Who can work in a house that’s overrun by contractors and carpenters? Not Madeleine Houser, a successful novelist who gladly accepts the help of her octogenarian friend, Ginny, to arrange for a temporary office in the charming bed and breakfast owned by Ginny’s friend, Arthur. Maddie’s never met the innkeeper––but a friendship grows between them as Maddie and Arthur leave messages for each other each day. someone else's love story

Publication Date:  November 19, 2013
Publisher: William Morrow

Goodreads:  At twenty-one, Shandi Pierce is juggling finishing college, raising her delightful three-year-old genius son Natty, and keeping the peace between her eternally warring, long-divorced Catholic mother and Jewish father. She’s got enough complications without getting caught in the middle of a stick-up in a gas station mini-mart and falling in love with a great wall of a man named William Ashe, who willingly steps between the armed robber and her son.

Shandi doesn’t know that her blond god Thor has his own complications. When he looked down the barrel of that gun he believed it was destiny: It’s been one year to the day since a tragic act of physics shattered his universe. But William doesn’t define destiny the way other people do. A brilliant geneticist who believes in science and numbers, destiny to him is about choice.

Now, he and Shandi are about to meet their so-called destinies head on, in a funny, charming, and poignant novel about science and miracles, secrets and truths, faith and forgiveness,; about a virgin birth, a sacrifice, and a resurrection; about falling in love, and learning that things aren’t always what they seem—or what we hope they will be. It’s a novel about discovering what we want and ultimately finding what we need.

the perfect match

Publication Date:  October 29, 2013
Publisher: Harlequin HQN

Goodreads: What if the perfect match is a perfect surprise? Honor Holland has just been unceremoniously rejected by her lifelong crush. And now—a mere three weeks later—Mr. Perfect is engaged to her best friend. But resilient, reliable Honor is going to pick herself up, dust herself off and get back out there…or she would if dating in Manningsport, New York, population 715, wasn’t easier said than done.

Charming, handsome British professor Tom Barlow just wants to do right by his unofficial stepson, Charlie, but his visa is about to expire. Now Tom must either get a green card or leave the States—and leave Charlie behind.

In a moment of impulsiveness, Honor agrees to help Tom with a marriage of convenience—and make her ex jealous in the process. But juggling a fiancé, hiding out from her former best friend and managing her job at the family vineyard isn’t easy. And as sparks start to fly between Honor and Tom, they might discover that their pretend relationship is far too perfect to be anything but true love….

Emma’s Opening

My granddaughter Emma was at my house when the UPS man brought a package to me.  It was a book!  I became real excited, so she did too.  Now she believes all the packages that the UPS man delivers are books – no matter the size of the box!

I decided she needed to receive a book herself in the mail.  The following pictures are enjoyment of that package from me.

Kristi’s Birthday!!

My daughter Kristi of Kritters Ramblings has a big birthday today!!  Please go to her website and wish her a great day!

Kristi started me on Goodreads a few years ago to keep track of my books and to start me writing reviews which led to her starting me blogging.  We went to BEA in 2012 and had an awesome time in NYC.  I met so many wonderful bloggers and enjoyed the connection in the community.  During the trip we joked about me starting my own blog and what I would name it.

When we came home, Kristi came and sat with me at my dinning room table and taught me what I need to know to get started.  She has been a great support and encouragement when I get discouraged.

So today we celebrate Kristi !!

J. Courtney Sullivan

My daughter Kristi of Kritters Ramblings and I went to Politics and Pros to see J. Courtney Sullivan.

Jennifer Close, who wrote Girls in White Dresses and The Smart One introduced Courtney.  They enjoy each others books.  It was nice to see a friendship between the two authors.
It was great to hear Courtney read from her book The Engagements.
Courtney was very sweet during the signing and enjoyed chatting with each person.  She was happy to meet bloggers and signed my copy of Commencement.

This is a look into what I am excited about coming in August.
This book is on my e reader.
Publication date:  August 13, 2013
Publisher:  Ballantine Books
Goodreads:  Hailed as “the reigning queen of women’s fiction” (The Sacramento Bee), #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber is renowned for her novels of love, friendship, and the promise of fresh starts. Now Macomber returns to the charming Rose Harbor Inn, where each guest finds a second chance and every room comes with an inspiring new view.

Since moving to Cedar Cove, Jo Marie Rose has truly started to feel at home, and her neighbors have become her closest friends. Now it’s springtime, and Jo Marie is eager to finish the most recent addition to her inn. In memory of her late husband, Paul, she has designed a beautiful rose garden for the property and enlisted handyman Mark Taylor to help realize it. She and Mark don’t always see eye-to-eye—and at times he seems far removed—yet deep down, Jo Marie finds great comfort in his company. And while she still seeks a sense of closure, she welcomes her latest guests, who are on their own healing journeys.

Annie Newton arrives in town to orchestrate her grandparents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration. While Annie is excited for the festivities, she’s struggling to move on from her broken engagement, and her grandparents themselves seem to be having trouble getting along. Worse, Annie is forced to see Oliver Sutton, with whom she grew up and who has always mercilessly teased her. But the best parties end with a surprise, and Annie is in for the biggest one of all.

High-powered businesswoman Mary Smith, another Rose Harbor Inn guest, has achieved incredible success in her field, yet serious illness has led her to face her sole, lingering regret. Almost nineteen years ago, she ended her relationship with her true love, George Hudson, and now she’s returned to Cedar Cove to make amends.
