This is amazing!! I can’t wait to read another Colleen Hoover book.

Publisher: Atria Books
Publication Date: October 18, 2022

Goodreads: Before It Ends with Us, it started with Atlas. Colleen Hoover tells fan favorite Atlas’s side of the story and shares what comes next in this long-anticipated sequel to the “glorious and touching” (USA TODAY) #1 New York Times bestseller It Ends with Us.

Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil coparenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date.

But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Thank you Simon and Schuster for sending a wonderful book with lots of extras!

Before I Go

Author: Colleen Oakley
Publisher: Gallery Books
Genre: Fiction
Source: Purchased

Goodreads: A heart-wrenching debut novel in the bestselling tradition of P.S. I Love You about a young woman with breast cancer who undertakes a mission to find a new wife for her husband before she passes away.

Twenty-seven-year-old Daisy already beat breast cancer three years ago. How can this be happening to her again?

On the eve of what was supposed to be a triumphant “Cancerversary” with her husband Jack to celebrate three years of being cancer-free, Daisy suffers a devastating blow: her doctor tells her that the cancer is back, but this time it’s an aggressive stage four diagnosis. She may have as few as four months left to live. Death is a frightening prospect—but not because she’s afraid for herself. She’s terrified of what will happen to her brilliant but otherwise charmingly helpless husband when she’s no longer there to take care of him. It’s this fear that keeps her up at night, until she stumbles on the solution: she has to find him another wife.

With a singular determination, Daisy scouts local parks and coffee shops and online dating sites looking for Jack’s perfect match. But the further she gets on her quest, the more she questions the sanity of her plan. As the thought of her husband with another woman becomes all too real, Daisy’s forced to decide what’s more important in the short amount of time she has left: her husband’s happiness—or her own?

Ope’s Opinion: The first part of the book read quickly for me and was very interesting. Everyone handles death differently, it was interesting how the author had each character deal with it. The middle drug on a bit for me as Daisy was obsessed with finding her husband a spouse. I thought that was such a sad waste of the time she had left. Instead of concentrating on leaving her husband the best memories, she was busy watching woman to see if they would be right for him.

I thought the subject and story were sad, but not to evoke tears – just sort of sad.

Out Now!

Goodreads: What would you do if ‘the one that got away’ turned up the night before your wedding?

Head-in-the-stars Audrey is about to marry down-to-earth Josh. Though they are polar opposites, they have a healthy, stable relationship; Josh is just what Audrey needs. But romance should be unpredictable and full of fireworks, and as the big day approaches, Audrey’s found herself wondering if Josh really is The One.

So, when Josh’s sister shows up to the rehearsal dinner with Fred, Audrey’s What If? guy–the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with–Audrey finds herself torn. Surely Fred’s appearance the night before she is due to get married can’t be a coincidence. And when everything that could go wrong with the wedding starts to go wrong, Audrey has to ask herself: Is fate trying to stop her from making a huge mistake? Or does destiny just have a really twisty sense of humour?

I hope to read this one soon!

Summer Island Romance

Author: Ciara Knight
Publisher: Author Collective 20
Genre: Romance
Source: Author Collective 20 ( Netgalley )

Amazon: Broadway star, Wind Lively, steals the show whenever she enters the room, but when her childhood flame decides she’s too much for him to handle her spark goes out.

Damon Reynolds returns to Summer Island for peace and quiet after a decade of descent into his ex-wife’s political parties and painful propaganda only to collide with his boisterous and beautiful childhood sweetheart.

But when Damon is put in charge of set design for the church passion play that Wind is directing, his life turns anything but tranquil.

Ope’s Opinion: Although this was a short story, it was packed with fully developed, amazing characters and a wonderful story. This was a fast, easy read. I finished it in two days and I am a slow reader.

This was a second chance romance, but it was also about a small town who cared about each other. They worked together to help special needs children feel great about themselves. It was nice to read about characters that were not self-centered.

I will continue to read Ciara Knights books.

Not My Daughter

Goodreads: Anna’s hands tense on Alice and she hesitates. In that endless pause, I see all I need to know. She doesn’t want to give Alice to me – not now, and not ever. And part of me doesn’t even blame her…

Milly always dreamed of being a mother. Adopted herself, she has always imagined a powerful intimate connection with a child of her own. So when she and her husband Matt are told they can’t have children, her dreams are shattered.

But then their loved ones offer the ultimate gift – Milly’s best friend Anna and Matt’s brother Jack will be donors so that Milly can carry a child and finally have a chance to be a mother. And with everyone accepting and open, Milly believes that nothing could could go wrong.

Except none of the four people involved are prepared for the feelings that will threaten their most important relationships as their precious, longed-for daughter Alice grows up and receives a heartbreaking diagnosis.

Then those who love her best will have to decide what it means to be a parent, and to make decisions with far-reaching and devastating consequences… for Alice, and for themselves.

Ope’s Opinion: I have read a couple of Kate Hewitt books and enjoyed them. This one did not disappoint my expectations. She writes a story that feels so real and possible. There were a few turns in this story – one of them I saw coming, but the others were a surprise.

There is a love story, a friendship, and a lot of emotions that will yank at your heart. The story is sensitive to people who have dealt with infertility, postpartum depression and other difficult situations.

I will be looking forward to reading more books by Kate Hewitt.

Goodreads: With twinkling humor and heartfelt Christmas spirit, two friends find love in a town called Wishing Tree…

Until Camryn Neff can return to her “real” life in Chicago, she’s in Wishing Tree to care for her twin sisters. She’s not looking for forever love, not here. But handsome hotelier Jake Crane is a temptation she can’t resist, so she suggests they pair up for the season. No golden rings, no broken hearts. At his side, she sees her hometown through Christmas-colored eyes. The cheer is cheerier, the joy more joyful. She thought she had put her future on hold…but maybe her real life was here all along, waiting for her to come home.

New in town, River Best is charmed by Wishing Tree’s homespun traditions and warmhearted people. When she’s crowned Snow Queen, she’s honored but wary. Dylan Tucker, her king, seems like the stuff of sugarplum dreams, but she can’t shake the feeling that he’s hiding something big. As they perform their “royal” duties—tasting cookies, lighting trees—Dylan’s good humor and melty kisses draw her to the brink of love. But she can’t let herself fall until she uncovers his secret, even if her lack of faith means losing him forever.

Let me know – I am always looking for a good read!

Lucky Streak

Author: Tif Marcelo
Publisher: Montlake
Genre: Romance
Source: Montlake ( Netgalley )

Goodreads: From the USA Today bestselling author of Know You by Heart comes a spirited romance set in the Heart Resort universe—a love story about fate, family, and second chances.

I never thought I’d see her again. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? But five years later, my casino fling is my new next-door neighbor.

A lot’s happened since we got acquainted in that hotel room. I finished out my military career, took a job with my estranged father, moved to the beach…the only thing that hasn’t changed is that Beatrice has always been on my mind. I can’t let her get away again. Lucky for me, she feels the same way.

Not so lucky, though, is our families’ business rivalry—and our resorts’ competition for the same property.

As much as I want to ride off into the sunset with Beatrice on the back of my bike, we want to make this work. And that means smoothing things out between our families.

If we thought finding each other after our night in Vegas was a long shot, this feud is about to give impossible a whole new meaning.

Ope’s Opinion: I have read several of Tif Marcelo books. I do enjoy her writing and I do enjoy that she writes about her culture.

The beginning of the story almost made me stop reading it. It started out with too much drama for me. The story did improve and I did like the main characters. The pace was a little on the slow side. I did like that Beatrice and Jackson had a bit of a history before their love story began. Second meetings are one of my favorite genres.

Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty

Author: Lauren Weisberger
Publisher: Random House
Genre: Fiction
Source: Purchased

Goodreads: A seat at the anchor desk of the most-watched morning show. Recognized by millions across the country, thanks in part to her flawless blond highlights and Botox-smoothed skin. An adoring husband and a Princeton-bound daughter. Peyton is that woman. She has it all.

Until . . .

Skye, her sister, is a stay-at-home mom living in a glitzy suburb of New York. She has degrees from all the right schools and can helicopter-parent with the best of them. But Skye is different from the rest. She’s looking for something real and dreams of a life beyond the PTA and pickup.

Until . . .

Max, Peyton’s bright and quirky seventeen-year-old daughter, is poised to kiss her fancy private school goodbye and head off to pursue her dreams in film. She’s waited her entire life for this opportunity.

Until . . .

One little lie. That’s all it takes. For the illusions to crack. For resentments to surface. Suddenly the grass doesn’t look so green. And they’re left wondering: will they have what it takes to survive the truth?

Ope’s Opinion: It was interesting to read a fictionalize story about the college scams. The story had a lot of realistic aspects to it. The two sisters were opposites, but both lead privileged lives that are a little hard to relate to. Being in the public eye, as Peyton is, makes dealing with the fall out of the scandal more difficult.

I wish the author had made Peyton a little sympathetic. I found it very hard to feel sorry that she got caught, she wasn’t willing to own up to, and acted above most people. The end is the only thing that saved it from a two chair to a three chair for me.

Our Stolen Child

Author: Melissa Wiesner
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Fiction
Source: Bookouture ( Netgalley )

Goodreads: I grip my husband’s hand tight. The doctor is frowning. “Mr and Mrs Marcello… I’m so sorry.” She tells us there’s been a terrible mistake. Our last embryo—our last chance—was accidentally given to someone else. The child we made four years ago calls another woman “Mommy.”

Quinn cries silent tears as she folds a tiny knitted cardigan, bought in a moment of hope, and packs it away. All she’s ever wanted is to be a mother. Although her husband James brings her comfort, the knowledge they have no embryos left, and that their child is out there being raised by another family, is tearing them both apart.

When the lawyers tell them there’s a chance to get custody, James is unsure. But Quinn knows she has to take it: if only to look her little girl in the eyes, just once. Meeting Emily and the woman who raised her, Quinn’s heart cracks wide open. Emily looks just like Quinn, right down to her curly hair. And when the little girl flings her arms around Quinn’s waist, she can’t shake the feeling this is where Emily is meant to be.

As the two families reckon with an unimaginable decision, a secret from James’ past surfaces… one that forces Quinn to question everything she thought she wanted. But how will they decide what’s right for the little girl they all love so dearly? And where does Emily truly belong?

An absolutely unputdownable, heart-wrenching read about two families torn apart by one terrible mistake. Anyone who loves Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper, Diane Chamberlain and Catherine Ryan Hyde won’t be able to put this down.

Ope’s Opinion: I thought this was going to be a long drawn out court case, similar to a Jodi Picoult book. It did have a court case and it did pull at my heart strings, but the actually court time was short – this made me like the story even more.

This is the age old question, what makes a someone a mother, the DNA or time spent raising a child. In this story I was pulled back and forth as to who the “mother” should be. There were some other relationships that were involved in the struggle too. I am being vague because I do not want to spoil the story.

The ending was satisfying, but the epilogue was tied up in a neat bow that was a little too neat!
